Supply for a new combination boiler

A

adlew

Hi all,

I am wiring in the supply to a new combination boiler. Is it ok to spur off a socket on a ring main in 2.5mm twin and earth to a dp 3amp switched fused spur with 1mm 3 core flex to the boiler or would I need to have a dedicated supply?

Thanks in advance for your info.

It is generally recommended that boilers have their own circuit but your suggestion is often used and will not overload the ring, but could cause more difficulty in fault finding later if it becomes required.

i always give boiler a dedicated supply, i consider it good practice , and it makes the gas safe guy feel important ( plus if he cocks up his connections you know its his fault).

Yes. Dedicated circuit is better for reasons already stated. However, the method you have stated is perfectly acceptable and that very set up is in hundreds of thousands of homes in the UK.
