Hi all was just wondering if it is against regs to attach SWA cable to fence post in garden rather than dig a trench. Cable will be providing power to a shed at end of garden which is a good 25m away and on a raised level from house. Also am I correct in saying that as shed is that distance and so meterage away from CU that I should provide a new earth rod for the CU in the shed?

Not against the regs as such, but not good practice. Need details on the earthing systems you are intending to use supply end (house) and remote end (shed) to comment on the earthing arrangement.

If your on a TN supply, NO, take the house earth with you... If already a TT system, Yes!! The more earth rod positions the better!! (so long as you don't use these thin twigs) Each rod position should be made up with 2 coupled 5/8th rods for depth and there-by stability!!!

As long as you're clipping to the distances given in the regs, and the posts are secure I see no reason why you shouldn't. I've only got my red OSG and the spacings in Table 4a are 350-450mm depending on diameter

nothing to stop you battening across the posts with decent pieces of 2"x1" then cleating the SWA to that. fence posts are generally 6ft. apart, so that's too big a spacing for the cleats.

Do a post test first..... or is it, first do a post test ?

If the supporting posts move or wriggle about when man(person)-handled then I would recommend that the fencing is not suitable as a support.

Your move....not the post, one hopes

Given that, it probably makes sense to TT the shed, unless you can be sure it doesn't act as an extraneous-conductive-part. (The SWA won't have...
