Hi All got a call today some one wants a socket, out side using. 32 amp and swa trying to work out the size of the swa got a amind blank any help would be gratefull:eek:

C'est simple how many meter in distance that will really affect the voltage drop I useally keep it under 5% voltage drop

Useally first 30 meter is not super circital unless it loaded near 32 amp all the time but any longer than 30 meter or longer you will have to increase the conductor size to compense the voltage drop

under 30 meter distance you can use 6.0mm² unless your local code say something else but if that circuit will be plan to increase the load in the future you will have to take a acount of upsizing and the SWA cable size as well I know normally I can get SWA in France the smallest one I useally use is 10mm² or larger.

Merci,Marc

Hi...Yes, 4mm (copper conductor) should be ok, single-phase or 3-phase for 32A. However, make sure that you have one of the cores available as a CPC, and do not use the armour as the CPC as this will increase the csa requirements of the cores.

I'm assuming the cable will have to be cleated well to hold it in place anyway, as a stuffing gland ain't going to hold it tight like a SWA gland...
