Hi all. Maybe a dumb question to some of you but have never done it before, can,t find a reg that says not. I need to find a way up to the third floor of a property thats being converted to flats to feed that flats consumer unit from a 6oa switch fuse on the ground floor. Was originaly going to go with 16mm t&e and serperate earth inside the building in trunking but the run is really not straight forward. so was thinking armoured in cable tray run up the outside. can anyone see any problems with this that i need to think about. as in no rcd protection to this cable so is armour enough?

Regards Daz...

no reason why not, except that tray will look the pits on domestic. could you not use some 1 1/2" waste pipe in best colour to blend in, run the SWA in that?

With suitable warning labels to show 240v, in case a plumber (surely not) cuts thro it thinking it's a waste pipe.

Thinking,,,, there won't be adequate support for the SWA on waste pipe.
Just use SWA cleats.

It's fuse protected, no different to any other external run cable.

i'd be more inclined to fix a " cut here " label. LOL.

Cleating this cable is probably going to be the better method. The only problem i can see, is how are you going cleat this cable above the second floor level?? Not on a ladder i hope?? ...lol!!

why would you run it in pipe.....just clipped direct should be ok....keep it straight..it will look ok....

And why spend extra budget on tray for no good reason? By the time you've fixed the traywork it'd be half the time to have cleated it direct. Just remember your long level on that day!
