Hello All,

Been i while since i've been here, but can the site has got even better :)

Quick question:

I have to do a mains change change on a job where the mains incomer/meter have been moved from one end of a garage to the other, therefore the distance from meter to board is about 8m, therefore 25mm tails are not accepptable, so i will be using SWA to feed the consumer unit, i am pretty sure i will need to use a main switch to add additional protection to this cable but will it need to be an rcd?

been a while since i've done this, and the advice is here is so much better then trawling through osg/big red book!!

any advice greatfully recieved!

have fun

Rob

You will need additional overcurrent protection for this, yes.

If you're using SWA or surface installed tails i.e in trunking, then no additional RCD protection is needed for it.
