I need to run 10mm SWA to building at the end of the garden, the electrician suggests clipping it direct to the fence concrete post which are solid enough and says is permissable as digging a trench is not an option. I am concerned about the UV issue, the support element as the posts are 6ft apart.

I have asked him could it be run in galvanised conduit as this would solve the UV and support problem but he says that he has never done this and is a waste of time.

Could I ask you guys for your opininion on this.
Thanks

you could fix some treated 3" x 1" timber to the posts, then cleat the SWA to that.UV should not pose a problem ( if in direct sun, might discolour after a few years).

I've got one its just the issue of can it be run in conduit or is this overkill. The sparks just wants to clip the SWA to the fence post.
well he's wrong then. BS 7671 recommends a spacing of cable fixings and it's far less than 6 ft...... for 10mm SWA, I'd be spacing the cleats at somewhere about 18"or less.

Assuming the cable is 3 core the horizontal fixings should not exceed 400mm apart. Find another electrician.
Yes its 3 core, I was hoping running conduit between post which are solid and concreted into the ground would solve the problem of 400 mm spacing of horizontal fixing, in conduit the cable would be supported along its entire length.
