Hi guys,

i am currently doing a referb on an old building i have a little problem and wanted some advice.

As i always put my switches at 1200mm to the top of the switch the builder now has Nogins at this hight also!
meaning now when it comes to putting my backbox on,the timber is now in the way...

He claims building regs state that nogins must also be at 1200mm how can this be when that is the hight of a switch???

What should i do here???

Notch the noggin it aint rocket science. GASP

Alter well yea you would think wouldn't you?? BUT REGULATIONS STATE CERTAIN HEIGHTS.. can just do as you want otherwise no need for the regs.

building regs. state 1200mm for switches in new build properties where it is expected that persons with limited reach ( for whatever reason) will need to be able to use them.

Part P say between 450mm and 1200mm so unless the builder is using a tree for noggins just bloody move it lower.

Yopu might want to rethink that statement after a read of the relevant bits mate.

actually reg states min 450 and max 1200 so easy to do

but lets not forget the OP always installs his switches at 1200 so moving them will cause a serious imbalance to his tape measure when marking them out.

Try actually reading the regulations and understanding them rather than assuming you know what they say, then you'll discover that the rule on heights are only for new build properties.

a decent builder would fix the noggins with the 3" edge verticallly, recessed 25mm below the board, so you had a ready-made fixing for a knock-out box.

If you can't read and understand the regulations maybe you best take that part p course you were told you didn't require
