Any thoughts on SY cable glands for earthing the screen. On a job where a contractor has used stuffing glands at both ends. Cable feed from a 3 phase DB, cable is ran on top of a wall 8 ft up from floor level, then on to try to a 240v switch socket cable is 3 core 4mm

You should earth one end of the cable. whichever end is easiest disconnect and remove from the gland, cut back the plastic outer PVC sheaf exposing the frayed installation. Untangle about a 4mm CSA length, the length is dependant on where you can connect to an earth. Twist it together, a drill is great for this, until you have what is a condutor. Cut the rest of the frayed protection off. Try and slide a little of the outer PVC insulation back over your "conductor" and wrap a small amount of Yellow'Green tape to stop the PVC slipping.

Back into the gland, sleeve with Yellow/green and terminate into the earth, and all this is of course you have slack

I personally think the CXT glands for SY are the pits!!!

You cant fix the body of the gland to the enclosure beforehand as the braids also have to be tightened in with the washers and locknut. Awful things IMO but I do use them.

yep
i assume that the screen has been cut at the gland...
and its not the earth.......
if so it just needs an earth at one end...any end...a bonding clamp on the stripped end would do..
as long as its not in an outdoor situ ...
