Sy cable

k guys needs some advice,

We have an event on tomorrow and we been asked to run 100m of 4mm sy cable to power up the event.

Now I know have mixed options but can this be done or should it be run in SWA cable??

The cable will be protected by 32amp in a splitter box

Did a quick check on the megger app and it’s saying between 25 and 16 depending on how it’s installed

SY has not been approved and tested for use in the UK yet so I would not use it.

It is currently being put through its paces by BASEC so hopefully we will know more soon.

Well 4mm is 11mV per A per m. I’ll let you multiply it out .
Depending on actual loading I think you’re going to need 10mm or more. Why not use SWA?

It will either be SWA or Hi Tuff. And 4mm will not be sufficient, even with diversity you will be looking at a minimum of 16mm.

How will the cable be run for this event?
How are you protecting it?

Any issues with that sy cable and someone gets injured - you’re screwed.. best using an approved cable..
Single phase or 3 phase, tns?

With the cost of cable required it might be cheaper to hire a genny.
