I prefer adapter flex on conduit for large boilers looks better than flimsy SY, wouldnt loose sleep over it mind.

All the SY cables I see now have a "Not suitable for fixed wiring" in the spec. Like the Eland cable in the above post.

I’ve not done it nor am I going to, just doing some remedial works on a school and thought I’d pop into the boiler house, seen some SY, thought I’d get your guys input.

Thats what your departures section is for on your certificate if you are the designer and you feel that is suitable - not based on price - cheap is not always best, then you can use it. Write down why you have taken decision for it use and be happy. As you say miles of it has been installed without issue enjoying its properites.

It is only recently that they have started putting "Not suitable for fixed wiring" in the specs.

Hi, its to do with the BS for fixed wiring and a different one for SY cable from memory. I'm sure someone on here can remember the actual regs involved. It may come to me once i've had another Brandy worth trying anyway.

Thinking could consider H07ZZ-F as its a heavy duty, halogen-free, harmonized, and flexible multi conductor cable as alternative flexible cable. Interesting to see what the cost would be as an alternative. Worth speaking with their tech. line as to its suitability.

Not sure that using SY to connect boilers would fall under BS7671.
Yes if it were used to feed the isolator, but from the isolator to the boiler no.

I’d have thought the other way round no?
Fixed wiring being from the OCPD to the boiler isolation point?

are these your school boilers?
