This post is slightly more detailed than the title suggests. I am fitting a small security light in a covered passageway that exists between 2 ex council houses. The passageway has structure above it which forms internal rooms of this houses. Consequently there is very little natural light in the passageway. There is a need for approx 3 feet of cable run from its exit of the property to the security light. The run will be horizontal at a height of about 7 feet above the ground.

I believe that the cable will unlikely suffer UV degradation or be subjected to mechanical damage due to its location. Please advise if experienced members would consider this acceptable in the eyes of scheme assessors? Also what sort of cable (other than SWA) could be used without using conduit?

Noticed at paragraph in part L that puts covered ways (which this is) into same bracket of exemption as conservatories. I reckon this is intended to be for insulation rather than lightning but what the hell, if it says it's exempt Part L that's good enough for me. Rules is rules.

If there are rooms above why don't you lift the floor boards and run the t&e internal under the first floor then fit a ceiling light and wire straite into the back of it

If its a wall mounted light just run the t&e in the floor void and drop it down the wall where the light is required
Just use a piece of conduit to drop down the wall so the t&e is protected and not on show

I've done many of these council passage ways by running the cables internal in the floor of the room above and fitting a balkhead to t&e ceiling at each end

FP200 black with M20 black glands and black P clips would look smart. FP would also give better mech protection than T+E. Don't forget earth sleeving
