Hi all,

Just a quick question, have any of you guys (gals) ever seen T + E (10mm in this case) in Henley blocks before, and if so, (don't think it is but) is it allowed?

PLUS there's always the risk that the cable isn't rated high enough to cope with a fault only protected by the service fuse ..... I'm jumping to a few conclusions here, but the block is usually at that point. In which case, for example, if it's 10mm2 and the fuse is 100A .... no can do.

I’ve done it but the cable was terminated with heat shrink to bolster the insulation to better (I think) than double insulated. The crutch was sealed with adhesive lined heat shrink. I’d also pulled out the CPC as I didn’t need it. It looked as good as a DNO termination, not that that's saying a great deal.

the cable coming from the henley block (whatever size) will only use the 100A fuse for short circuit protection. Overcurrent protection is provided by the downstream fuse, or mcb. The next fuse should be within 2-3m of the service fuse.
 
in theory mate, theres nothing that says you cant. I wouldnt though, as it wouldnt be the best way to approach the job. For example, if the shower tripped, and the lights went off, youd be banging into things naked!

Fir example, the cable buried in the road to feed your steet may be fused at 300A, say with a 300mm2 cable. your tap off will be a smaller csa cable say 25mm2, rated at about 100A.


the 300A fuse in the lucy pillar at the end of your stree will protect the 300mm2 cable from overcurrent, and short circuit.
the 25mm2 cable will not be covered by this fuse for overcurrent, as the cable would be irreprably damaged by the time the 300A fuse would operate. the 300A fuise will provide short circuit protection for the 25mm cable though.

This is why the DNO provide a service fuse. This protects their cable from overcurrent protection, and also protects the metering equipment.
