Tails upgrade

Hi, just a quick question I am upgrading a cu and partial rewire. Now the tails from the cutout are 16mm and go in to a teleswitch, they then comeout and go in to a multiwatt reader then in to the ccu. Obviously I want to use 25mm tails after the meter so do I get the electric board out to upgrade there part? Can the teleswitch be removed by them ? At my house supply comes in to cut out into meter then in to isolator then in to cu.! Any advice appreciated I am new to the game also so be kind

Main fuse is 60amp. I am upgrading cu to 17th edition spec 25mm is part of that isn't it ??

You would be wasting money getting them out to change their part, they won't be interested, 16mm is fine for almost all domestic applications, you may well find you have a 60A or 80A fuse anyhow. What they have between their cut-out aand meter is their property, I wouldn't even worry about it.

It's not your job to worry about the size of the tails on the supplier's side. And are you sure the tails on the consumer's side need 'upgrading'? Is the teleswitch no longer serving a purpose? If not, you would be lucky to get them to remove it. Depend who the DNO is, around my parts they would only remove when the meter is due to be replaced, unless it is in some way dangerous!

leave the tails as long as they pass visual....60A will cover them...

Ok cheers guys will leave alone and just change the board!! Can I ask why do they insist on using 25mm tails if there not really required ??

They don't really 'insist' as such. I recall people on here saying it all stems back to the drawing of a standard arrangement in the onsite guide.

The OSG insist on 25mm tails.. But remember this is a guide.. check cable carrying capacity for size of tails and that decides wether your tails need upgrading or not

There is a mention of min. 25mm tails in the OSG, but no reference to any reg or reason as to this (if memory serves me), it is another page that may well be more useful as toilet paper. It's almost like they're dumbing things down so much in that OSG, like, "If we say to use too big every time then nobody can use too small. Doesn't matter if the reader knows how to work out the appropriate size for themselves or not.". Hic.

87A is the limit for 16mm tails, if your pulling that regularly in your gaff you must be growing something! :earmuffs:
