THIS IS FOR ELECTRICAL NEWS ONLYi is it me or does it take older guys longer to do jobs that when we was young

Is it me or do all the older guys 60+ that still do jobs that takes 2 days to completely finish which when we was younger we could tin 1 day
I'm 74. a 1 day job takes 2 days, mainly because I'm buggered after 5 hours in a day (with a couple of smoke and beer breaks).

Since the old ticker has gone a bit haywire I am definitely slower. As a result of which I am converting my garage to a workshop and making musical instruments like harp and guitar. I have a dozen jobs repairing guitars and the such like already and nearly finished the conversion. Fortunately I have a stand in for work on the books and still taking work. But up until that point jobs have always been completed in time if anything I have become more efficient and faster doing office refits for instance.
In fact the younguns that work for me invariably are slow and have no stamina. Usually they are shot by 2 p.m. and can't even think straight by the afternoon. There have been exceptions but they are still way slower than me doing connections especially fiddly ones.

Interesting ...I know of 3 guys that have had enough of jobs, vans and the whole farce .They all want out And have a nice set up in a shed/garage etc fixing stuff .less issues , nearly as much money . very few hoops to try and jump through every time they change the goal posts etc !

That’s another thing, it seems like I loose my screw drivers and other various tools. It seems like you want to keep working because the money is good but damn it seems like I’m buying tools alot

You guys are estimating all wrong.... from the words of the great Montgomery Scott...

K. "How long to re-fit?"
S. “Eight weeks. But you don't have eight weeks, so I'll do it for you in two."
K. "Do you always multiply your repair estimates by a factor of four?"
S. "How else to maintain my reputation as a miracle worker?"

My biggest bugbear about the trade is,if you decide semi retire and do 2 or 3 days a week, you,v still got all
the calibration costs, insurance, part P scams, transport and tools to pay for,so your sort of trapped in the same costs as a guy who works 7 days a week.I,m 72 by the way.

S
