Hello,

[ElectriciansForums.net] Taped WiresWe have a house in Spain that is rented out for holiday lets when we aren’t using it. Recently I had a very awkward and unreasonable tenant who complained, amongst other things, about the temporary fix in the attached picture where wires have been joined and then taped.

Can I please ask your members if they think this is dangerous? It’s now been fixed properly but if it was in a dangerous state then I guess I am in the wrong, no matter how unreasonable the tenant has been.

Thanks for any help and kind regards.

How where the wires joined?...

Looks high quality actually compared to the usual work I see over there...lol

Totally unacceptable to have a joint like that in your own home, let alone one you rent out. IMHO

Im guessing thats T&E (which I dont believe can be used in Spain) connected to flexi-cable --- may I ask what its connected to/from?

Agree with Brightspark2 --- positively professional compared to some wiring Ive stumbled on in Spain!

Agree with Murdoch -- whilst not actually able to see the mechanical connection made/protection, on the face of it it doesnt seem to be an acceptable way to connect cables!

Not exactly going to win any awards. I don't know much about the Spanish regs but I would be surprised if it wasn't legal. As stated already it depends a lot on how the wires are actually connected under the tape. As it's shown in the photo there's no signs of overheating, there's no conductors showing and the tape looks surprisingly secure so it's not an immediate hazard. If they're losing sleep over it then pop a roll of self amalgamating tape in the post and tell them to add another wrap over it.
