Digging up more fossil fuels doesn't seem like a good idea to me. In fact, in a strong field, it is definitely the worst idea that I've heard all year.

Renewable energy prices are dropping all the time - if there is something that needs investing in, it's this.

uk coal..:smartass:

Releasing more and more carbon that was trapped into the ground millions of years ago when the atmosphere was not suitable for life as we intend it nowadays...surely we should try and slow this process down? We can gradually switch to carbon-neutral technologies, and we must accept it will cost more that cheap, dirty energy.

I do however agree we should try and have a more protectionist approach to international trade, especially when it comes to renewables. In Italy for example there is a 10% Feed-In-Tariff penalty is the panels used are not made in the EU. There are however all sorts of ways one can get around that unfortunately...Although a law like that, if there are no loopholes, could really make sense here too.

Many EU-based solar companies are now going bankrupt as they cannot stand the Chinese competition...Q-Cells, Solarworld, Scheuten are all in a precarious state now.

Cameron doesn't like protectionism and most economists seem to think that it would slow the global economic recovery down. I think we should only go down this route as a retaliation to Chinese policies.

is the bit about the agregator scheme referring to the likes of churches etc which could end up being treated like rent a roofers despite each individual church being responsible for financing and owning the PV system rather than it being a national centrally funded initiative?

hadn't really considered this side of the agregator stuff before.
