You'll have to wire in a new circuit with a control switch somewhere!

Option 1: If you use a radial circuit just go to a DP isolator wherever they want it and then to the sockets in the bedroom.

Option 2: If you want to run a ring circuit you'll probably have to use a contactor and then wire the coil to an isolator switch to where the customer specifies!

There are probably other options but these two would be the simplest IMO.

Cheers

Hi,
Why not just remove the sockets and replace with keylock sockets.
We fitted these to communal areas in flats, whereby you insert the key and turn and the socket on, then just turn the key anticlockwise and remove, and socket is dead.
Easiest method I would have thought,

I cant believe that a parent would ask for such a thing.......If thats the way they are with them, then they shouldn't have kids in the first place!!!!!!!!

Totally agree Lenny; personally I hardly dare enter my teenagers rooms for fear of getting attacked by a new life form, or a hormonal daughter (which would be worse)
Seriously though, kids should be nurtured not stifled.

I don't believe much in education. Everyone should be there own model no matter how frightful that may be.

Albert Einstein.

I guess that goes for the kids and the parents.

Thanks for the replies I guess I should turn the work down on moral grounds.

lol, I'm not sure why everyone is getting on there soapbox about this:D. You could just wire a spur off the ring in the bedroom, use a 2 gang grid switch, with a fuse and keyswitch. The other sockets in the bedroom will still be live all the time though, I guess it depends on the layout of the room.

I'm thinking of stripping the ring out of the room and putting a socket outlet outside to room for the hoover. Spur off to a switched/ fused connection unit inside a lockable box and running the 3 sockets with neon indicators as radial.

Sound ok?

I must say this thread has been entertaining!

The customer has said that it would be easier and more peaceful to do it that way rather than the constant battle to get them off the PC and games console.

I have worked in peoples houses where the mother has been constantly nagging the kids for that very reason on a number of occasions. It makes sense to me to be honest.

Yeah, agree totally. Rather than keep badgering your kids to turn the TV/PC etc off, just turn it off for them.
I've got an FCU feeding a socket behind my 4 year olds cupboards, this socket has TV/DVD etc plugged into it. Unfortunatley he now knows how to turn it all on, sending him to his room for punishment isn't so bad for him anymore:rolleyes:

Your idea sounds ok, except that maybe an enclosure will be a little ugly.
I'd check with your wholesaler, see what they have. How about the sort of switches that are used for security shutters, they are usually brushed ally. Like this-

ROLLER SHUTTER DOOR SECURITY KEY SWITCH - FLUSH FIT on eBay (end time 12-Mar-10 23:02:23 GMT)

100041 Flush-Mounted Key-Switch

You could try telemecanique, you can drill a blank plate and fit one of their keyswitches to it. Not sure what the rating of their switches are, although I'm sure they would have something suitable.
Failing that, a contactor in a small enclosure, hidden out of the way. You can switch it anyway you want then, there are a few different options, depends what the customer wants/wants to pay.

cant say i have ever heard of such a request, must be a toff or something treble the price, call social services as well,if u take away a kids enjoyment then you create another rebellion,do they not think that kids can be very clever at times, and may try to get sockets working any way they can, there could be safety issues there as in screwdrivers etc,you catch my drift.my dad only had to mention a belt or drumstick and that telly was bye bye.

When I first read this thread I was off into the technical aspects of it, as you do, but will admit that I started to think of the other issues that are here. Are the parents gonna plunge the kids into darkness as well when its sleep time ? I personally would get a sick feeling if I went anywhere near this job. Please accept, just my personal opinion. My four children used to fall asleep watching the tely andthe sound of a telly or computer in their rooms let me know all was well. (cept' when they got wise, turned the telly up, and were off out the window to town ! )- love 'em.
