hehe going to show this thread to my teenage daughter, who thinks I am "Tight" way to go, do the job and take the cash. the communal plug sockets worked well in apartment areas when we used to wire them. Dont forget to leave the web address for super nanny when you leave :)

All I will add from a previous life, is that there are real problem kids out there, no matter how good the parents are. The cries for help here may be coming from the parents not the children. I therfore in all reasonableness, would like to offer that I take back any personall opinion or judgement that my previous posts may of infered, I am guilty of them. Provision of isolation to the circuits concerned provides options that dont exist at the moment.

just out of the interest of this subject i watched a documentary on TV tonight talking about Internet addiction.

They went to Asia Japan and Korea where internet and all subsequent technology is far superior to what we know it.

They stated about 4 - 5 years ahead of what we know.

The effects are shocking and it is a real problem that needs to be addressed.

The person I'm doing the job for is a psychologist and treats depression.

BBC News | Health | Internet addicts 'need help'

So guys request for such alteration work could well become more normal.

'CRUEL TO BE KIND'

Yeah, agree totally. Rather than keep badgering your kids to turn the TV/PC etc off, just turn it off for them.
I've got an FCU feeding a socket behind my 4 year olds cupboards, this socket has TV/DVD etc plugged into it. Unfortunatley he now knows how to turn it all on, sending him to his room for punishment isn't so bad for him anymore:rolleyes:

Your idea sounds ok, except that maybe an enclosure will be a little ugly.
I'd check with your wholesaler, see what they have. How about the sort of switches that are used for security shutters, they are usually brushed ally. Like this-

ROLLER SHUTTER DOOR SECURITY KEY SWITCH - FLUSH FIT on eBay (end time 12-Mar-10 23:02:23 GMT)

100041 Flush-Mounted Key-Switch

You could try telemecanique, you can drill a blank plate and fit one of their keyswitches to it. Not sure what the rating of their switches are, although I'm sure they would have something suitable.
Failing that, a contactor in a small enclosure, hidden out of the way. You can switch it anyway you want then, there are a few different options, depends what the customer wants/wants to pay.

That Flush mounted key switch looks neat but I guess I'll still need a F/C/U though.

This kid is clearly disrespectful to the parents but i suggest let them play as much as they want because when they cant get a job and end up in trouble with society then at least they will be used to been banged up, cell, t.v. playstation, radio, computer well his bedroom is probably less equiped than the average cushy cell nowadays in this soft touch britain.
BRING BACK NATIONAL SERVICE :)

This got a bit of coverage on R2 this week, with quite a few callers. Many were just limiting internet access by limiting connection times through a router, Suppose same can be done for TV, just cut the signal feed, probably far easier than isolating the power.

iF you get to the stage where you have to resort to this kind of action the parants have obviousley lost all respect from their kids, and even if you control the sockets in their bedroom they will proberbley get an extenstion lead and plugi it in somewhere else,
Best option - install monitoring software to P.C.

The prob is Teenagers are clever with PC's and can often find ways around software and now games consoles have internet access too.

An awful lot of teenagers I know stay up till the early morn on line or on games console. Then like a drip all day.

Parental Control on the power solves all the the Internet, Games and TV in one after all there is parental control on SKY ect why not go the whole hog.

I guess these parents would have the Extension leads locked away in the shed too.
And I guess if those parents found them using an extension lead the power would be off longer as a deterrent!

When it comes to the crunch what parent wants there kids filling there mind with NON REAL experience.

Control is needed one way or another these things are getting extreme and I guess it needs extreme action.

And on a positive note these parents will be doing there bit for the carbon footprint.

And they will probably be calling you at a later stage to bring the room back to normal. Thats got to be positive for all of us leckys, yes.

Seems very strange at moment but I'm sure like usual when things change it will become a normality.

Just a few thoughts.

Why don't they just remove the PC from the bedroom or is that to simple:rolleyes:

Makes me laugh when parents say they can't get their kids to do their homework because they are either on the PC or watching TV in their bedroom, parents only have them selves to blame letting the kids have them in the bedroom in the first pace.

I guess too much fuss moving PC, games console, TV ect every time the kids go wayward. so, not as easy a flick of a switch.:D

I suppose the ideal solution would be to have a dedicated leisure room so the door could be locked and then the BED ROOM would be just that a bedroom. But not everybody has the room or a big enough house.

We made our teenager do all homework before going to bedroom but there was always an excuse to research online but we would find then on facebook. lol

Agree TOTALLY!!!!

We have three kids and another on the way and even though our eldest is only 6, she is very Tech Savvy. However, the requests for a TV/Playstation/DVD in the bedroom will fall on deaf ears. A radio/CD is fine but i cant see why they need to each have all the gadgets in their own bedroom.. admittedly i did when i was growing up, and i have a heavy playstation addiction now!:p

simple put a lock on the bedroom door. lock the little dears out and keep it locked till homework done then as a reward for doing it unlock door and let them play.

Gary

can also lock the little sods in lol:D

What about fitting one of these bad boys, that way, you can turn off the sockets without leaving the sofa. lol

Ultimate Range Remote Control Double Socket, Chrome

I like them, thanks !! its something I didnt know existed and will be of use one day. Common sense says the remote just activates the switch in the dsso. I wonder if they are wired in the standard way, in which the ring shouldnt be broken when the unit is switched off, of course it wouldnt be, just got a sneakey feeling !
