telephone point - re connecting issue

hello i need to sort out damp causing problems for a phone point

my question is ... is how do i disconnect the telephone wires as they are punched in .. i need to disconnect so i can add a pattress box and then re connect ... do i just cut the wires and the punch them back in afterwards .. so much easier if they were screwed in ...

Not sure what the law is on bt master points... i have moved them in the past and cut the wires so a little was left in, then terminated again using a punch down tool in the new spot. you can get terminal blocks to extend and join cables if it is too short. again i am not 100% sure on legality but i suspect you are meant to get bt to do it.... if in doubt ring bt / openreach they are normally helpful enough. 99% of time i suspect openreach will say get on with it as they are so short of engineers they dont want the aggro of something so small. if it goes wrong then you pay

The wires will pull out, normally only need terminals 2 and 5

If you have a krone tool one of the little metal bits that open out is a small hook to pull up on the conductor and pull it out of the terminal.

Then you can cut it back a fraction and reterminate.

Yup, crack on and get it wrong then BT will take lots of your hard earned dosh to sort it out .........

Oh the usual BT Open Reach spiel about "if its not our fault the charge will be £145"

The last engineer that turned up at my place I told him its a fault at the exchange and it was, when the night shift come in to move/reroute circuits and they pull the wrong one out they just leave it until someone reports a fault.
