Evening all. I have to supply a garage conversion with a 16mm armoured running 40 meters away from the main house. I was thinking about coming off the Henley blocks (in the meter cupboard) into a TIME DELAYED RCD board, with a 63 amp Mcb, then glanding the 16mm armoured into the board. I was thinking About putting a separate meter box next to the existing as I know sweb get funny about it all Is this the Best way to go about it ?

It goes without saying....... but I'm on about everything being open and unsealed.

It indicates that the isolator has actually been installed, with the outgoing swa having originally been directly from the meter???
Yes, that is how I found it, directly into the meter, the flats are on a 40A fuse back at the Ryefield board as they have a communal heating system/hot water, reported it to the client who said just fit the SPD we'll get our blokes to sort the Sub main.

Its weird though because the armored goes ~5 meters and has been done like that but the whole flat is wired in steel conduit

Yes a meter box is an enclosure, the regulations do not define if only a skilled or non skilled electrically person is required to open it with a key or tool and there are also internal barriers against access to live parts, so I don’t see basic insulation on show in a meter cabinet as non compliant.

If all you need is a means to make off an armoured without the faff of a box, present the gland into a female conduit bush, sleeve the conductors with decent heatshrink, fill the bush with resin and use the banjo to fix it to the wall. Tony taught me that one.
With this arrangement I don’t see how you are earthing the steel wire armouring?

Isn’t the meter cabinet an enclosure? You need a key or a tool to open it.

(yeah, I wouldn’t do it like that either, but just asking the question.)
I also agree but would never do it. Customers know how to open meter cupboards too easily
