I would have thought you would be using a proper CXT SY cable gland.

that's the one. on the small stuff , making off the braid, spikes your fingers like needles. don't you just love it?

Learn something new every day. On the rare occasion where i've used the stuff i used a standard stuffing gland, twisted the bradding together then sleeved it green and yellow before terminating it with the CPC. I'm assuming that's not good practice but not wrong/unsafe?

yes thats the gland i used last month on my am2, it was a pain to braid and the cales had an eart in it anyway , but they also wanted to use the braiding as earth, ithink the trick to braiding i is be very carefull with it

the time i used it before with my previous employer, i was just told to strip the 3 layers off and use tape at that point then just go ahead with terminating the inner cores as the braiding doesn't need earthing. Looking back im glad i left when i did. Its just unreal the amount of short cuts and bodges and health and saftey laws he was missing out. As well as what he was doing with all of his waste. Some of the work was interesting but was just bodged up.

Terminating SY cable is just one step up from terminating a flexible cable into a stuffing gland. This guy made it look difficult in the extreme. As for using the back of a penknife, ...not exactly the safest thing to do, could lose a couple of fingers if you pressed hard enough ...lol!!

I've never made off a CXT gland, and it looks shoddy. I've terminated an SY into an E1W gland, and it was good. I don't like the idea that you need the locknut to hold the CXT gland together. I would put another nut on before inserting the gland into the glandplate.

I'm not a big fan either... Terminating the CXT into motor housings that are already tapped for M20 glands seems a bit rough... The fact you've got a bit of braid hanging out of the gland seems to mean you can't get a good even pressure on the whole thing to the point where it might work loose. Is an E1W desinged for SY, or is it used for something else?

Do you mean earthing the braid, or using the braid as an additional CPC?
