Having spent the evening browsing through the various forums and reading lots of very useful information, one thread has brought up a question. In the thread the poster comments that they do not have 2391 so can not do periodics.

Is this so? I am a time served electrician, and have my 17th Edition ticket, i've been testing my own work since I qualified and occasionally doing periodic inspections.

Anyone shed any light?

PIR can be done by any body who has any idea of what they actually doing..!!! dont need 2391 but this qual would be the backbone of proving competence in a dispute!!

I don't think you need 2391 to do periodics, you need to be competent and experienced and know what to look for, what any results of testing mean etc etc. I think being experienced enough to know what code to give things is the key factor, and it sounds like you are m8. I'm sure there will be a bit more input from the more experienced lads than myself.

Cheers

The main issue with either certs or reports is can you VERIFY the paperwork? It must be remembered that a signature only verifies paperwork if the signatory can be deemed competent in a court of law. Clearly, if you are standing in the dock accused of incompetence, NOT having an "industry standard" qualification will be the first issue that any prosecuting lawyer will raise. A further issue may well be insurance, since it is a somewhat "grey" area, especially with regards PIR`s. The majority of PIR`s issued in the UK are not worth the paper that they are written on since, if push comes to shove, the insurance companies will not pay out. The onus is on you, the policy holder, to comply with the Terms and Conditions of the policy, even if you are not fully aware of what they actually entail. Overall, you'll probably be ok - UNLESS SOMETHING GOES WRONG........

Thank you all very much, cleared a question of doubt in my mind at lest!

regarding the 2391, as always it's one of the many thing's i've been meaning to get round to but not as yet had the time or been at home long enough to do anything about! it is top of the priority list though! Thank you all again!:D

Make sure that you do the C&G 2391, not just one of the Schemes' internal versions - that way you can take it with you, whichever scam you decide to pay blood money to.........

Far superior?

In what respect?

I'm not in Napit but I understand that their theory part is multiple choice and open book, and you have multiple attempts to get those you answered incorrectly correctly.
