Sorry to ask what is probably a stupid question. I recently posted about extending the bonding on the in coming water main.

Going to be doing this job tomorrow so just going through paperwork etc and wanted to check what I need to check (if anything) before I extend it.

As its not a final circuit there's no testing of R1 R2 etc. Would you just check continuity before and after?

Cheers Rich

Yes mate continuity of earth bonding cable from the pipe so it checks the connection of your earth clamp.

No such thing as a stupid question. This is an open forum feel free to ask all you want, its the only way we learn.

cheers paul.

No worries mate and as sir kitbreaker says above there is no stupid questions (just stupid people that don't learn because they don't ask).

I remember your previous post about this, can you confirm visually the full length as you've said "extending the bonding". It needs to be one continuous run with no connections, are you installing a new bonding or extending?

The plan is to extend if needed as I need to move the conduit that the cable is in. I can't confirm that its one continuous length as I can't see the whole run. I might know more tomorrow when I'm there.

Measure the resistance end to end (and one end disconnected) - needs to be less than 0.05Ω

Get the table out as well so you can work out the diameter of the bonding cable from the resistance reading times the length, if you cant see its entire length. Not uncommon for it to be 10mm where you can see it, and some cowboy has joined it onto a bit of 4mm out of sight.

would it not be simpler to join a new bond onto the old and draw a full new one in then you can be confident its satisfactory
