Hi I have done a test on a lighting circuit and can't get my head round results.
Live--Live == 2.19 m ohms
Live-E ==== 99.9 m ohms
Also RCD tipping test at I ==400ms but does not trip
but at I5 trips at 14.7 ms
can anyone shed any light.

Thanks Col

Well after reading your posts here I can say you deserve a ripping, you have asked a question about when is it possible to start notifying your own work, apprentice? more like a bull****ter.

...So start again,fella,what do you think may be the reason for your 2.19Mohm reading (L-N),what would affect your RCD,the way you tested it,and is your RCD on a different circuit?

No stick,just an honest ask...:icon12:

what type rcd? are you sure you had the tester set to the rating of the rcd e.g. 30ma

did you not test end to end?

it is always worth linking L-E and testing at board (with cores disconnected from board to prove you have the right cable)

This place reminds me of my school daze, where you'd not put your hand up and ask a question for fear of been ripped to bits.

With all respect Jonspark - the OP's question was ambiguous, confusing and dotted with basic errors, when this was pointed out and he was ask to explain further he gave a little attitude back in post 9 with a small comment of at last a sensible reply - all previous posts were sensible IMHO given the info we had, we are all happy to help but will be clear when we think any poster needs to give more info and consider how they ask in future to help us better understand what they require.... simply listing a lot of readings that of course we can guess are IR tests then saying basically he doesn't get it is asking us what?

Feel free to answer the OP from his opening question alone and good luck with giving him what hes looking for because it kinda lost me to exactly what he was asking.

EVERY day is a school day.

Did nobody tell you that??

I learn something new every day on this very site and sometimes it's interesting. Sometimes it's even funny and at other times it's useful, but mostly it a load of sparks all getting their bollox in an uproar about how to do something simple in the most complicated arse about face possible :sailor:

Edit: ........... I forgot to nick your dinner money off you .... HAND IT OVER!!! :30:

That's cos he's a happy hippy[emoji6]

Yes, but I can forgive him for that!

I very nearly became one myself way back when.

I grew my hair very long, wore bell bottom strides and started playing Dylan & such like on an acoustic guitar and hanging around with other hippy types who wore Afghan coats, beads, bells & things and decided to buy one of these coats for myself.

I Saved some money - ÂŁ15 I think - went into the shop & started trying them on and then spotted a rail of leather biker jackets at the other side of the shop and that was it!!

The realisation that I would never be a hippy and my roots are in Rock 'n' Roll and it flows through my veins struck and it struck hard.

So I walked out of that shop with a brand new black leather jacket which cost the same as the dead sheep's coat would have cost. The hair cut came next, Brylcreem was purchased and applied liberally and sideburns were grown to such an extent that they became a fire hazard.

The acoustic guitar was cast aside to be replaced by my beloved Telecaster!!

It was a close call - I very nearly became a fully fledged Hippy but all that beads, flowers, incense, twanging sitars, and meditation crap really wasn't the way to go.

Get the leather gear on, crank the Telecaster up and have a good old 3 chord, 12 barre bash .. THAT'S the way to do it!! :coolgleamA:
