There callibration shop in Harold Hillon the A12 South bound. They can do it the same day or while you wait for about £90.00

And i thought that all official certified calibrations of designated test equipment, should be carried out in a controlled environment, (usually i believe at a temperature of 25c)!! Or is this something else that's gone out the window??

why 25deg.? very rare they'll be used at that temperature. in this country anyway. 15 - 20deg. is the most you'll find in a house or factory.

It could well be 20c, just that 25c rang a bell to me!! lol!!
But the fact remains typical calibration testing was always carried out in a controlled environment. Which formed part of the declaration on the test certificate issued...

20C for UKAS calibration & an uncertainty factor of k=2

It is normal to allow the instrument to stabilise for 12 hours before calibration in a UKAS lab

How many electricians use a UKAS lab?

Mores the point, ...How many electricians have correctly carried out calibrations to they're test equipment??

Can someone here, post a copy of a calibration certificate issued against a MFT or single unit tester, from one of these third party companies. I would be interested to see on what basis your equipment is tested against??

Thanks Jay, haven't had a good look through yet, as i'm just going off to bed. I did notice though that the cert did stipulate a testing temperature of 20c +/-1c. Which i would think in the case of a traveling test technician, pretty dammed hard to be able to maintain, for both his own test equipment (that was calibrated itself at 20c) and the equipment being tested!!!

That cal cert was done at a lab near me but my last cal, which was done in Oct this year, was done at a house I was working on. The guy that did it, is the same guy that does my Elecsa scam assessment. If you want to have a look at that cert, ill dig it out and upload it for you.

Hi Jay what is on page 2 of the cert
I note that the MFT has not been tested for the following:

RCD trip time
Insulation test voltage
Voltage
Insulation @ 500v
Insulation @ 1000v

there is no information on what test leads were used (supplied or theirs)

that's a better cert

have you reviewed it?

No. As long as it passed and continues to do so, ill leave the number crunching to the technician.
I know nowt about the calibration process and with all the calcs and numbers we electricians have to keep in our noodle, I just cant be bothered to try and understand it.lol

I think that's all any electrician wants or is interested in for they're test equipment, ...lol!!

But as i've been saying, how can a traveling test technician warrant those environmental conditions stated on the test certificate?? The truth of the matter they can't!! So in essence the test Cert's they are issuing, don't comply FULLY with the National Standards they quote....

I do, it might cost a bit more but it makes the cert worthwhile imho. I was quoted £45 from a non UKAS place or £80 for the UKAS accredited one, no contest for me.

Trev, as far as i know, ALL calibration testing should be undertaken in a controlled environment, surely that's why they are called (or was) testing lab's!! It's the only way tests can be carried out on a level playing field. Can't have calibration test equipment going from hot to cold and cold to hot, as well as humidity changes, depending on where the testing is carried out!!
