testing by megger info

Hello Confused-Fuse,
I found your megger info sheets very useful. I am still practicing on my Megger 1710. I thought that as Insualation Resistance test is a dead test so I can literally do this test on a cable which is in its pack. It was 1 mm2 twin and earth cable 21meters.
First I did the continuity test and it was 0.64 Ohms so it is ok for 21 m cable.
But whenever I try to do L-E insulation test nothing happens, however long I press the button. Similiarly L-N insulation test nothing happens.
Whats going wrong here, your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rigby, by nothing happens do you mean the reading is 0.00M, if so have you removed the link you used during continuity testing?
I have never had a new mains cable on a reel go down when new and undamaged, but i have had data cable go down even on a new reel out of the box, so I always check data cables prior to installation
