O

oldtimer

Guys as more and more equipment have got electronic or computerised equipment fitted ie a washing machine used to have a elctromechanical dial now they have on board electronic / software control so my question is how do you approuch this with regards to the type of test ie test with 500vdc or 20A earth tests or ????

Other equipment I am confused with

Flat screen TV
Freeview box
Fridge Freezer with digital display

So please give me your views

It's been a while since I did any testing but if I remember right, any decent test instrument will have settings on it to test sensitive equipment without wrecking it.
Otherwise I use my Fluke 1520 and do an IR test @250V across LN-E and a simple Earth continuity test, basic I know but I think it's OKd in the IET Code of Practice book.

Many pat testers can do the 250v dc ir test .

and earth bond at 100 mA

for sensitive equipmemt

which model do you have

if your machine wont do these setting perhaps using your mft with these settings might be easier alternately depending where you are if you only have a few to do maybe someone on the forum can assist :)

Most items now have pcbs inside even vacuum cleaners have soft start modules, toasters have timer circuits and kettles have temp sensors all electronics, not all are low voltage stuff though.

I was wondering the same as what Type do you class a TV nowadays if they are more IT than Portable? When the item is used by the public this really impacts on the fq. of CI&T...

I'm going to test the TV's in a hotel which are Class I with the IT test on my tester and for the Class II Freeview boxes run the IR test @250V sound OK??
