hi ,
im currently working on a new build housing site and have been testing alot of the installations,
some i have 1st and 2nd fixed etc,
but others i have not,
some of them i havnt wired the property but i have done the 2nd fix and then tested it too,

i have been filling out the electrical installation certificates too and signing them, so basically signing off other people work ?

i am interested on other peoples thoughts on this.....

Unless you are the person conducting the installation work, you should not be signing off certificates stating that you are.
Use the certificates by all means to record test results, but don't sign them, just hand them to the QS to deal with.
If you were using the 3 part EICs, then you could sign for the testing, bit obviously someone else would have to sign for design and construction.

yes i agree with you here, this is what ive been planning on doing

I don't think I've ever worked anywhere where everyone tests their own work - most companies seem to have a 'guy who does the testing'.
I'm not saying it's right, it just seems to be the way it is.

Came across this recently, had to second fix another lads work (kitchen) but told them beforehand that I'd only sign the testing section and that they'd need the original spark to sign the rest off. Put a new board in while I was there and included the circuit results on that, was never asked to do the bits on the EIC so don't know if he signed it all off or it was ignored, he'd done the vast majority of work in the flat anyway.

Although you're completely right Adam I can't help thinking that that approach is contributing to the down hill slide. I think that every electrician should be fully conversant with testing procedures and be willing and able to test his/her own work. I've been on sites where I've been asked how to test by supposedly apprenticeship trained people. I've also had an argument with one bloke who swore blind that he should not be testing because he didn't hold 2391.
Also, there's always the chance that "tester bloke" doesn't fully know what he is doing and will sign something off as acceptable when it isn't. Slim I know but.......

Does the name of the company include the word "not"?

No mate, to be fair to the QS and Head of electrics, they're sound, know their stuff and are good as gold with us, there is a side arm to the company though that doesn't consult them as much as they should because electrics are a very small part of their work, and all the "arm" wants is something to include with invoicing, and they'll probably use my EIC for the board upgrade.
