Testing someone else’s work

Evening all!

First post but been a lurker for a while, finding the information on the site very useful when i’ve searched for bits of info and other peoples opinions, as a quick introduction i’m an early 30’s self employed handyman training to become fully qualified electrician.
I have gone down the domestic installer route as a foot on the ladder with one of your favourite schemes but as i’m paying for everything myself and dont have the luxury of a huge bank balance this has worked out the best way for me, by no way do i think i am fully qualified electrician but i am constantly studying and certainly putting the effort in to get there.
I’m after a bit of advice though if you wouldn’t mind. I was changing some light fittings for a customer who asked me to check a socket that she has had someone install.
Initial tests found no earthing what so ever so i told her not to use the socket until it was looked into properly. Anyway the chap thats done it is apparently “more qualified than anyone to do that sort of work” but hasnt issued a minor works and refused to when asked for one.
The customers asked me back to test it which i’m more than willing to do however i don’t want to issue a minor works because i’m not putting my name to it. She basically want to know if its safe and if i can do a report on my findings, she also doesnt want an EICR as the house is only a year or so old.
So after all that my question is... what form can i use to report my findings without making the work look like my own?

Nope I was heading down the it’s probably an easy fix and not to stress about eicr or mwc....you look the hero and get all future works, but I do stand by my question of what caused the lady concerns in the first place?

How have you been able to confirm no earth without any physical or visual testing?

Agreed but it could be as simple as the earth has come out.....why was the lady concerned in the first place she couldn’t have known about the lack of earth?

My first thoughts as well, her words “he was a drip that constantly made excuses not to come back and finish the work” and the standards of the other work they had done for her gave her the concern for wanting it checked

No, somebody asked me how it was spurred, or if it was a new socket... i assume they were heading down the lines of should it be an EIC rather than MNWC

If it is an alteration to an existing circuit then it's a MNWC, an EIC would be required if it was a new circuit, in this case it's an alteration to an existing circuit.

no earth was confirmed by trying to get a ZS reading but not being able to. mft indicated no earth

Couldnt get a ZS reading on my mft which indicated no earth... i’m trying to keep up but i’m on my phone and the comments are flooding in

What were the initial tests that you came to the conclusion that it had no earth? or gave concerns by the customer.

Sorry, trying to keep up. I plugged my mft into the socket to get a ZS reading, but couldn’t. My mft indicated there was no earth

Think you’ve fallen into a bit of a trap here Tom,if the only reason she wanted it checked was “he was a bit of drip”.......I wouldn’t get my testers out for that
