Hi All
For my NIC assessment I have installed a new circuit on an existing spare way in house CU to get power to a shed, ( a double socket and light).
4mm 3 core SWA has been run from 32a mcb in main CU in house through to a 2 way sub CU in shed. The SWA is RCD protected, the 3rd core is the cpc and the armour has been earthed.
Ive tested the earthing and bonding at the origin CU, Ze and all is good. My question is this, are all further tests on the EIC shedule of tests results ( continuity, IR etc) tested at the origin CU or the shed CU ? Also as Im obviously testing that the SWA is sufficient, the run is about 20 metres, will the parrallel paths of the SWA affect readings that much?
Cheers

The cable to shed is cct on the house CU and tested as such, noting the Zs on your sheet.
That Zs then becomes the 'Ze' for the shed CU, call it Zdb.

The parallel paths with make a difference to your live ZS when you test the circuit you may find that it brings the readings down !

Are you asking if the 4 mm SWA is good enough for the load in respect of VD .

If that is the case you need to do a simple calculation.

(mV/A/m) x Ib x L / 1000

In your case depending on the ref method of the SWA you will be looking at a Ib around 8 Amps!

You don't test the garage circuits from the house CU.

Why would you even think you would?

I have a copy of GN3 for sale if you like. 10 quid plus whatever postage would cost

You need an EIC to cover your new circuit from the house Db, then you need a seperate EIC or seperate schedule of tests for the new circuits in the shed.

Thanks all for your comments, have done as you suggested Murdoch. Thank you for your time

Is 32 amp okay or will you need to drop it to 20 amp? have you looked at that bit, the NICEIC inspectors like to analise everything, however if your sure then great, good luck anyhow, I'm sure you will be fine with the inspection, money talks.

Mike,

He hopefully selected 32A to discriminate with the upstream protective device, and downstream (I assume) 16A & 6A MCB's.
