Hi all

I know this debate has been bounded about the forums in past with various responses.

Usually I measure Zs from the furthest pendant.

However if I use this method during my Elecsa assessment next week, will I be pulled up on unsafe live working practices?

My argument is that within the ceiling rose, the conductors are insulated and terminated within insulated connectors, so, with GS38 probes, presents very little risk of shock

I know the adding up method is acceptable, but don't feel its best practice unless its impractical or unsafe to measure directly.

The assessor decides what test you do they usually get you to Zs a socket outlet dont panic

In the last 6 years ive not been asked to test a lighting circuit once on inspection

The kewtec adaptors are good though

Live testing is a whole different game from "manipulation of live conductors". The latter will get you in trouble, unless you have all the PPE, sufficient knowledge and experience, and a cast iron excuse for HSE as to why you couldn't work dead.

+1 on the Kewtech adaptors - brilliant for the B&Poo lights that people want fitting for next to nothing. You know who you are...

"How much? That's more than the light cost."
"Indeed it is , but I don't live in China. You could get a Chinese electrician, but I suspect the travelling costs would push the price up"
"Mmmmm. I'll think about it and let you know"
