For the ones that are experienced with alarms out there I would appreciate some advice. I've done a few alarms over the years (never a texecom) but looking to gain a bit more experience on them.

I'm building a new office/workshop in my garden to save a few quid and getting rid of the unit I've had over the last few years. my plan is to install a texecom veritas 8 alarm.

I've attached a rough diagram of my thoughts. looking for ideas where the alarm can be improved i.e position of PIR's etc and would appreciate a bit of an idiots guide on how to wire/connect it all up especially as I need two keypads as two entrances and I've never had to do this before and never touched a texecom alarm before.

I've chosen the texecom alarm as I've seen it recommended many times on here.

thanks Lee.

1. the PIR in the workshop area, i'd move to the top right corner, rather than having it look directly at the double doors. if glass in the doors. sunlight can cause problems.

2. keypads can be daisy chained or starred. texecom installation manual will advise. . usually there is a resistor to fit in no.2 keypad, but this will be included in the kit and a diagram is there to be followed.

3. i'd fit contacts and possibly shock sensors to both external doors if cabling runs are acceptable aesthetically.

cheers Tel. There is no glass in the barn doors they are just made of wood an there will be a door within one of the barn doors so they don't have to opened up unnecessarily.

by starred do you mean both keypad connections will just be in parallel in the same terminals? I haven't purchased the alarm yet but had a little look online and I see there are dip switches in each keypad and they must be set differently. would this negate the need for a resistor in keypad two?

not sure with veritas, but it's all there in the installation guide. the dip switches will be set to ID each keypad, but it's all explained in the manual.

Another question office A and worshop area will be on different zones so can there be a delay programed for each zone to give sufficient time to enter the code when entering on the keypad? This really is a bit of a new area for me and don't really have much experience with alarms so the helps appreciated.

Yes, the Veritas r8 keypads are addressable from the same connections , I have never had to fit a resistor.
They really are a straight forward panel to fit .
All the options to avoid programming are available on installation to save you time.

The vibration detectors, as Tel advises are a good idea on a shed.
A sounder in the house may be a consideration too, if the siren box is to be low.

have used some texecom, but generally use gardtech. as for the delay. it depends on whether you contact the doors. if you do, then the doors would be programmed entry/exit ( delay set to suit ), with the PIRs set as entry inhibited. that means they are inhibited if you open the door first, but instant alarm if not.

if you're not wiring the doors, then you need to prog. the PIRs as entry/exit. all simple when you follow the manual.

All the questions you have asked are available with the Texecom.
When you open the entry door a predetermined time, set by you, or selected from the zone options- will start add allow you to unset the alarm . This is called an 'inhibited zone' and allows you to enter it without triggering the alarm.

one of the beautys of installing intruder alarms is that you can use whatever colours you want for whatever purpose. e.g. green/white for 12V detector supply.
