Hi Everyone.
I’ve been called up by a local for EICR remedial’s. The main switch’s on two Square D Quickline 2 boards are too high for the incoming tails.
Scouring online for suitable replacements but can’t find any 40 amp ones.

These boards were used well before my time so wondering if anyone knows what other breakers might work?

Thanks in advance

Yes it ok I realise you did not do the test. YES QOE will fit. The size of the tails is irrelevant in regarding the main switch size. What you need to know is what OCPD is protecting the tails and what load is being drawn on those tails
Couldn’t get to the OCPD- might only be a 40amp there but as I couldn’t get to it, erring on the side of caution

I didn’t carry out the EICR’s just doing the remedial’s. Main switch is 100amp and the tails are 10mm.

so the QOE range fit? Thanks for the knowledge ✊
Sounds like whoever did the EICR is confused? Nothing wrong with a 100A main switch on 2.5mm tails, it's what the protection for the 10mm tails upstream is that matters...

Or are we talking a breaker on a board feeding a sub board?

Schneider seem to be the only manufacturer who are happy to say their recent products fit the older boards under names they've bought up over the years.

One day I have a dream of an online database with all the relevant knowledge of compatibility for older boards - but I'm too lazy to do the work involved myself...

Yes you and the other guys are right. Better go source the OPCD and see what it’s saying

An online data base would be great! Hours trolling online to find out what works with what on my phone.

A lot of the 'official' stuff doesn't fit anyway, depending on exact model and busbar type.

Ran into this myself on Friday putting a LeGrand RCBO into a LeGrand board from 2000s - should be compatible, but sat several mm higher than it should on the busbar. Had it before with Wylex too.

I've already said Schneider Resi9 are compatible with Quickline II but you must be sure it is Quickline II and not the previous Quickline, they are different.

Thanks, definitely quickline 2.

Do you (or any of you fine gentlemen) have any info on the thinking behind these older boards and why they didn’t survive or evolve?

I know RCD split board were only a few years away from my 2000 installation but as it was before my training (started in 2005) I wonder if these were popular and if so why

I staring at this now. I’ve got an old Wylex board in my flats and need and want to put RCBO’s in for the lighting but trawling through old makes and models is ballache

Don't know, I love them, you can wire then so neatly what with the mcb outgoing terminals at the bottom. No messing with busbars, just stab the MCB on and you are away.

Lol!
I guess the jump from rewireable fuses to that must have been something at the time, but what happened to square d? Bought out by Schneider but killed off it seems

Absolutely nothing whatsoever wrong with that. 100a is the rating of the main switch, the main switch is not a protective device, it is only an isolator. Size of the tails should be judged by the fuse protecting them.. I'd be checking other recommendations too as sounds like whoever tested it is extremely incompetent.
