I love a few quid on the footie every week, goals galore is my bet of choice, i spend a measly 3 quid a weekend on the footie, because its far more exciting than buying a euro millions and a lucky dip on a saturday!! And more chance of winning!

the lottery provides us with a great example of how stupid the human race really is.

if i saw a horse priced at 150/1, common sense would ensure that i stayed well clear of it - no way is that old nag gonna win, would be my thinking.

yet every week, i willingly part company with my money, thinking that i'm in with a chance of landing a lottery jackpot. the odds for lotto and euromillions are 14,000,000/1 and 76,000,000/1 respectively.

i've had the same 6 lotto numbers since it started in 1994. i have an account with the national lottery and they take ÂŁ8 a month out of my bank account so i can play these numbers. i win about ÂŁ10 every 2 years. that's a ÂŁ10 win for every ÂŁ208 gambled and, i have never had more than 3 of these numbers come up in a draw. but, i'm stuck with them - they're burnt into my memory. i could never stop gambling on them.

on top of this, i'll gladly stump-up a few quid on lucky dips - rising exponentially with the size of the jackpot.

stupidity, desparation or both?

Both probably, but i agree you can't ever stop playing them now...because the moment you do, sod's law and lifes way of being a bitch is that they'll then come up :)

Despite your maths on the odds being well off Shag as none of us have the time, mental capacity, or simply aren't rain mans younger brother...we all play the lottery because no matter how awful the odds are, how far fetched the likelihood that we might win is....the sheer thought of sitting on a 200ft luxury cruiser, floating around the carribean whilst being fed grapes by an array of barely (if at all) dressed 19-25 year old lady deck hands, whilst simultaneously having the 15 minute lotion top up before each round of musical bikinis takes place, is just too much to pass up on.

We dont bet on 150/1 horses, because winning enough back, to earn said luxury boat with multiple hot women, would require us putting around 500 large down on that horse, to earn the ÂŁ75 million jackpot equivalent. Now that just seems like an unreasonable amount of wedge, to put down on a 3 legged donkey

hahahaha, of course i'm not wrong!

obviously, the odds for the average joe are around 116,000,000/1. but i was referring to MY odds of winning, based on the amount i spend on the bloody thing each week.

that's my story and i'm sticking to it!

I find it horrifying however, even as a young bloke who really shouldn't get too hung up on the morality of such things maybe, but all these companies now, encouraging gambling from your mobile in so many different forms. Roulette on the go, fruities while you wait for a bus, mobile scratch cards etc, in this current financial climate, encourage people who probably are quite susceptible to a little gentle persuasion and who usually definitely cant afford it, i feel is pretty immoral. Surely efforts to PREVENT that sort of thing should be in effect, not the reverse.

spot on, even the states banned it, that's when they all moved out and set up shop in EU tax havens then started aggressive marketing on the TV and internet here...they got kicked in over there and limped over here to look for the weakest people to bet online and play phone games with their meager funds...if any of the hundreds/thousands of people in ownership of these firms set foot stateside they will end up in an orange uniform...

Digging up a thread from last year, but fancied sharing (mainly to help get over it). Had this accumulator on for the last week, middlesborough 1-1 Barnsley at 89 minutes, the rest all winning, 90th minute goal by middlesborough sets me off cheering thinking i've just won a load of money. To then find out millwall equalize in the 90th minute (30 seconds after) against QPR. Life changing money for me, never mind though, it's all fun and games... :banghead: [ElectriciansForums.net] The Mugs world of Betting.

won the lottery first week it started, a tenner! since then only done it about 3 times so i am up about 6 quid not many people can say that.

I don't play the lottery.used to.won the thunderball a few times and that was it.
I'm much more of a fan of the casino. don't get as much time as I once did, but when I go, I usually go large and spend a mini fortune. rarely lose too much in all honesty.won a good amount over the years.
