Hi guys and gals,

Just paid for the new City and Guilds 2396 Design and Verification Course which I'm starting in 2 months time. This new one is a level 4 compared to the old which is level 3! So how come?!?!? I spoke to the lecturer and its all basically the same: Project and 3 hours exam.

Has anyone here had any experience with the new course, or will I be one of the first? Would love to get some info to prepare myself.

But eyyyy.... Just a run the park :dizzy2:

is that the replacement for the 2392 ?, I cant keep track of all these numbers.

The 2396 is the replacement to the 2391-20 design, erection & verification.

Although it is now at level 4, I wouldn't say it would be any more difficult per se, as IMO the original 2400 and consequent 2391-20 'should' have been at level 4 anyway.

i have been looking at doing this to.

How much did you pay if you dont mind me asking and where are you doing it ?

On trade centre training website is advertises it has Level 4 construction management in design and verification. Anyone actually seen it listed as a requirement for a job application ?

A mate of mine sent his JIB off to list his compex quals and it came back with C & G 2400 on it !!

The technical difficuilties between the 2391-20 and 2396 are no different. I have sat the 2391-20 and seen papers for the 2396 myself.
It's because the qualification has moved over to the QCF. It has been stripped down bare from the old requirements, and then restructured exactly as it was around the new QCF criteria. Under the QCF it now achieves Level 4.

Sweet, time for me to hit technicians status. I'll try remember to post a write up about it when I'm done, looks like I'll be one of the first

Please do. I have been given the task of writing the course, so that i can deliver it. Should be fun i suppose! So any input from anyone would be most welcome, especially if someone can tell me where in Yorkshire i could do the course. So far i have been unable to find anywhere.

Cheers..............Howard

I'm down in South Wales so I will be doing the course with South Wales Electrical Training in Port Talbot. There price was ÂŁ552 including vat so not too bad at all........ I think! And I'll remember to do a write up when I'm done.

Are you close to Swansea at all???

Bus coll or Gower college Swansea as they are now known used to run the 2391-20 for ÂŁ275.

Jesus! ÂŁ275 is outrageously cheap! I only researched on-line and there's no sign of the 2396 with Swansea coll.

Didn't want to go back to them really, did the 2391-10 there and had some serious problems getting my certificate from them. must have taken 7-8 months after I finished the written exam. They were dreadful on the phone also when I was on the hunt for it.... lost count how many times I contacted them just to be fobbed off each time.

Oh..... And I paid for the course months before it started over the phone and in full! Not acceptable!

Having done the 2391-20 and the new 2396, I can tell you the exam is a beast in comparisment and very hard, given the time scale. Questions in the 2391-20 would ask for brief discription whereas the 2396 asked for detailed answers. The electrical calculations are on par with HNC level, so this course would only suit those with above average knowledge, as the course itself doesn't cover enough. Only 2 out of the 10 at my training centre passed, me being one of them ;)

Well done mate.
I'm seriously thinking of taking it. Just cant find nowhere in North Yorkshire or North east! Nearest place was Bolton or Rotherham!!!!
