Now, i know a few members here are not yet registered or are registered with someone else.

What i would really like to know is if you are registered with the NICEIC ONLY what issues good or bad you have with them.

Someone is showing a small interest in your opinions as they work closely with them.

Please keep this on topic & please keep it civil.

I have never had any bad issues with them i think there service is good, they are alot more known than the others and i think offer alot more like training, books, dvds, software, insurance etc.


And some housing associations etc specify NIC EIC contractor only.
 
i dont have any bad things to report other than the time it sometimes takes to get through on the phone :mad:

i would still stick with them anyway as most domestic customers recognise their name and i dont have the time or patience to try to educate them to the other options open to them :p
 
I think they are really good, don't think their expensive, all domestic works that you regester online comes with a ten year insurance backed work manship warantee wihich is a great selling point, the inspections for the fully approved contractors cover everthing from the in detph knowlwdge of qulifing supervisor to the office systems, instrument accuracy and complaints etc, our area engineer is very good and has the answers you need, you can contact him to ask questions or phone the helpine, just gone over to the electronic certificates that the nic provide and they seem pretty good still have a few updates and amendements to make like a spell checker (and yes i really need one haven't down loaded it yet on home cpu for this) . I think alot of people think that the nic are really 'picky' and expensive but i feel that if you are a companat electrician and take pirde in your work they only want to steer you in the right direction and help, with all the support you get it really is worth it.
Although you could say i was byest because i have only been regesterd with the nic, did hear about a mate of mine that got Napit regesterd a few years ago, the inspector turned up at his house took the money asked a few questions and watched him carry out a loop test on a socket at his house! that was it???

I am ok with them. Looked long and hard at NAPIT (since they cover more than electrical) but in the end went with the NIC since they are better known to the general public. Agree they take their time to answer the phone but better than the utility companies.
If the other bodies become as well known to the general public I suspect they will loose the edge for me.
 
I think there is generally a lot of pride in being a member of NIC and that comes across when talking to most sparkies. The ones who aren't registered normally wish they were and panic about going for registration which is how it should be. We have a division who do work for B&Q and they insist on Napit registering each job. It is a bit of a drag and a lot of a papaerwork exercise to appoint blame in the event of a fault, but B&Q had no choice but to use Napit as NIC couldn't offer the same service, so i'm told. I am used to issuing certs on Napit now, but we issue NIC also for our own satisfaction. As we do call-outs and remedials on B&Q jobs that have been completed by other companies, i can honestly say that the level of workmanship is low when you bear in mind that these are all certified works. I am happy with the NIC's service and they are a lot cheaper than any of the alarm inspectorates.
 
We are with the NIC as a DI and AC, I have been very happy with the service I have received on the phone.
I have found that the area engineer excellent. Since January this year every new job we have looked at we have asked the questions Part p, NICEIC, Napit, etc, only 22% was aware of Part p, 27% NIC, 19% re the others. We have won only one job because we are NICEIC in last few months. !!!!!!
 
Never had any problems with being in the NIC, in fact they are by far the most recognised within the industry. You get what you pay for these days so worth the yearly admin costs/fees in my opinion.
 
No issues at all really.

One or two maybe with the way they interpret the regs, and make their own ones up.

Thats just the way they are though, who are we to argue.
 
I looked at which banner to be under when Part P came in and it seemed to me that NIC was the most likely to be recognised by the public (and therefore have value to my business) and also I figured that their financial strength would mean that as others inevitably fell away or were merged the NIC would likely continue. I didn't want to change my logos and van decals.

However, I find the ANNUAL inspections a major pain in the proverbial. I am qualified but my business only does about 25% electrical work (rest is general maintenance and building) and the requirement to find appropriate jobs for inspection when the NIC deems the timing to be right for them is something which makes me seriously consider pulling out of ANY scheme and simply notifying the council each time instead.

However, they're reasonably efficient with any query and the inspector is sympathetic and helpful when I do have an inspection. Their online shop is excellent and I have most of the publications (which are very good).
