Has me in a state of confusion...

We live in an early 80's house so the wires coming from the ceiling are 3 red, 3 black (one with blue tape, assuming they ran out of red) and 1 earth. Our new ceiling light has 3 blue, 3 brown and 1 earth.

I have tried a multitude of combinations and have failed to get the light to work at the same time as the switch i.e if the light does come on the switch does nothing. Other attempts have stopped other lights downstairs working correctly.

Could you possible advise how you would deal with this situation? I feel like i have tried nearly every combination.

Thanks in advance

It's my speciality.

Tony the Global Mod on the "other channel" had a full head of hair - and then some - until I started posting on there.

Have you seen him lately????

He looks like heas been shorn like one of Des's sheep.
but i told him straight over the phone that it was a step in the right direction...

he was blubbin n bleatin on about it but at least he doesn`t look like one of them sweatys you see shufflin about....

I think now at my time of life I've had all the fanny a man could ever hope for - by gaslight, oil light, flash light, candle light, electric light, limelight, arc light, moonlight or daylight ............. they're all the same with the light off anyway ................

Aww Gawd..... he's off his meds again or maybe the magic mushrooms have kicked in. Talking of fannies.............. how are the offspring? :prrr:

I disagree about people being the same with the light off................. Winston taught me everything I need to know about braille. :lipsrsealed2:

I have attached it again to this post Pete hope you can open it.

@jimmymc, appreciate that I really do, I have worked in an around IT for 20 years but if you got a bad virus or some other fault you would have a go at fixing it yourself before you paid out for a computer repair shop i presume?

I haven't intended to be disrespectful to anyone on here and I came here because you guys are the experts in this subject and I will absolutely get an electrician in as this now appears to be beyond my capabilities.

For your information if you type in 'UK DIY Electrical forum' this site is top so not at all unsurprising you should get people asking DIY questions here is it?

I have some it qualifications.

Electriciy kills, whats the worst that can happen with a computer?

Virus? No problem use an antivirus problem or if it wont boot can reinstall windows

Electric problem, the next owner of the house can get an electrician in to fix it after you have killed yourself.

A windows install disk costs around £100 and you can use it on as many of your own and relatives machines as it is the key you pay for.

Or get it from msdn

Microsofts download centre for free and use the serial printed on the side of your machine

And the wooden leg, dentures, wig, glass eye and moustache!!! Well enough about me.................:stuart:

Happy new year Mike!. x
