Discuss The "Thanks" button in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

Can we just confirm, the "Thank" button is for a useful post and the "like" is saying "I like your post" - "agree" or "what a hoot you are". It is not implying that you "like" the poster. Its just, well, I have noted that most electricians I meet in the wholesalers are not the sort of person that likes anyone or anything. Maybe I'm the atypical electrician ....

IMO the 'like' button is for posts you like and for useful posts, because the person who posted them is reminded of their useful post in the notifications and in their profile, so they are encouraged to replicate that useful post (or one of a similar nature) in the future.
The 'thanks' button seems largely redundant now.

In your profile it states that you have been thanked 28 times in 27 posts. If you keep an eye on this number then when it changes you can go back through all your posts and see who has thanked you!

All 2,627 of them? Sounds like a bit of an effort to me, when you can 'view liked posts'.

TC you’re not a tomcat, you’re a Molly. Prostituting your self for favours.

I had to resort to the OED to find out what a female cat was called.

Behave nicely and I’ll give you a saucer of milk!

Just had a thanks (very rare, like hens teeth!) and i got to thinking, unless you go back over your posts you never see who thanked you (unlike the "like" button).

Have i just missed where to look or can you not look up who has thanked you?

I know what you mean!
With most of drivel I post, I get some Thanks for something and I don't know what is for.
If I knew, it might help to improve the quality of my input to the forum...fat chance! :)

The old forum style used to let you click on the 'thanks received' text and you were taken to your most recent thanked posts.

When we swapped over though, this functionality was lost as it was deemed that a facebook style 'like' button would be more widely used so the emphasis was placed on this hence the notification you get when you receive a 'like'.

Personally I'm old skool and prefer to 'thank' someone for a useful, informative post and see the 'like' button as a bit of a jokey sentiment due to it's facebook origins. A sign of the times I suppose with social networking taking off in the way it has, it gives the forum more 'hits' by liking a post as, if you have a facebook account it registers on there too.
