could anyone reccomend a good book for a young electrician trying to get his head around heating systems?
Ive started to working for a compony that are heavily based in this area and i really need to sharpen my skills quickly.
Most jobs i go to these days i will be working on a system that ive never seen in my life and my job is fix that system. Stress is the word.
I was mainly based on rewires, testing and general mainainance with my first company but hard times on the job market have driven me into other areas outwith my comfort zone.
Im really looking for a book that can explain exactly how these systems operate, electrically, mechanically, and even on the plumbing side.
I bought a book "domestic central heating wiring diagrams and controls" but its not what i was looking for, it seems to be an index of connections points for various manufacturers, probably handy in the right hands. Looking for something else.

Tomorrow i go to fix a problem with a economy 7 control. Something im not experienced with so i dont feel 100% confident, but i'll have a go.

Tried to make this post earlier but it didnt seem to "go through"... is there a thread screening process before threads can be submitted?

i could do with this book too mate, we barely touched on this in college and since then i've just done combi boilers which are dead simple

"Hello Neon Vagabond",

I previously Today posted a Book recommendation for You - recommended to Me in the past by a College Tutor in Electrical Installation - for a Heating Systems Wiring Book - with Links to CORGI Direct and Amazon for the Book.

BUT when I found the facility on Amazon to `Click and View` some of the contents I found that it was probably similar to what You already have / have seen - And the Reviews were NOT all completely favourable !

I came back to My message to delete it.

I did not look at how to completely Delete My original message to You on here and when I tried to just Delete by `Select All / Delete` the website would not allow this - `message too small` [after Edit / trying to Delete] - so I wrote this.

I wondered if this webpage might give You some information about the pipework and operation of some of the Domestic Heating System layout - some of the `Systems` shown are obsolete But You might come across some old systems:

http://www.gasman.fsbusiness.co.uk/fully_pumped_systems.htm

The Workmanship of both the Heating Installer and the Electrician in some of the Photos is atrocious - the worst that I have ever seen !

I don`t know how anyone would have the front to actually post the Photos onto a website as examples of their / a Tradesman`s work !

Please don`t be offended if You find the information is just `Simple Details` which You may already know.

Sorry I could not be more helpful.

Regards,

Chris - Heating Engineer
