My Sister has had an electrician in to put up a security light for the garden. She's just told me the wiring comes into the house and then directly wired into the back of one of the sockets! Sounds dodgy to me.

Very dodgy take it they just spured into the back of the socket (RING CIRCUIT) theres no protection or isolation for the light a new circuit should be ran with its own protection or could come off a switched fused spur best thing for you to do would be to disconnect the light. Did u get any certification with this job
Guy can't have been a spark. I mean there is doing something badly and then there's this. No means of local isolation? Did the guy provide a fire extinguisher for you?

No local isolation is an inconvenience, I'd be more concerned with the lack of adequate overcurrent protection for that (probably) 1.5mm cable hacked into the 32A ring!
