Thoughs on which board please

Hi,

Got a house, 6 bed detached property, currently totally empty.

100A Cutout fuse supposedly

Ok, so I have two consumer units which need replacing as the covers will not stay on due to damage and broken casings etc.

The bloke would like them all in one unit, which I have to say would be nice.

I have the following across the two boards.

6x Light Circuits (6A)
1x Smoke Alarms (6A)
1x Boiler (16A)
1x Electric Fire (16A)
1x Cooker (32A)
3x Electric Shower (40A)
6x Ring Finals (32A)

To be honest, the house is heavily loaded in terms of the number of showers etc, I don't really know which way to approach this, he will probably not want to go with RCBO's due to cost, but I could stack a couple of boards.

What are your thoughts?

They are a meter or so apart and the customer would just like them put together ideally into one unit, its not the covers, the backs are damaged and where the screws locate, the lugs are buggered, the whole board needs renewing.

I see, could use bond-it to repair boards but if the customer wants it changing then the customer gets what they want.
Small metal (lol) 3ph board with links would be the best way forward like others have said.

You could pop one of these in with the link out kit and a load of RCBO's

So £210 for the board, plus £20 for the link out kit, plus about £50 for the disconnector kit, plus 20x £23 for RCBO's

so you would be looking at approx: £700 for parts, which actually doesn't sound that bad.

You need to shop around !! + the front cover will need to be metal if you install to new regs !!!

Really? So no more plastic CU's??? are you sure? I thought they were flame retardant or whatever the word is?

Hager make lovely domestic kit, so I think you cannot go far wrong there, individual RCBOs would be a better bet though, just saying :biggrin:

I do like Hager kit, I fit a lot of it, ill call round tomorrow if i get chance and see what I can come up with.

The one suggested can be obtained in metal also. Ignore 2nd isolation switch as in your case not required. Also ignore MCB. your looking at about £365 ish

Good man, do the job properly, make sure for that price you do not rip him off, use rcbos and be a decent fella.

I think its (I could be wrong) you can install both until 01/07/2015 as all new designs after that date will need to follow the new regs BYB.

They do make great kit. I think the removable top section that you can cutout the knockouts after you have mounted and then re-fit is genius. You get the feeling it was designed with the installer in mind.

Contactum metalclad consumer units go up to 36 ways as standard. The big ones have two rows of of MCBs one above the other.

Personally these days I would be getting SBS's SPSN RCBOs and busbar etc and using them in whatever board.
