Do Not argue with idiots, as they will always drag you down to their level - and then always beat you on experiance.
 
Take everything on here with a pinch of salt, even the smartest on here make mistakes, but still suck up all the free info like a sponge. Take nothing personal (there are some smart sarcastic and sometimes rude but bloody knowledgeable guys on here).
 
Cheer up mamba, If I played a part I apologise, only you know what to do regarding work and costs, you don't have to take any notice of anyone on here do you? cheer up fella.

Talking of police. You breed the kids tough up here in the North East. Next door boozer had a kids Easter party yesterday, as I was walking in to sample a pint or three of their finest and watch the Blues hammer Palace, two police cars came haring down the road with the blues n two's on. Think two under fives and three eggs were taken in to help with enquiries!
 
It really comes down to the devaluing of the trade (note I didn't use the word "profession" as this upsets some people) by constantly lowering prices. I know how much I need to earn to make this business work, plus I know what my skills, training and experience should be valued at. Unfortunately, when someone comes along who is much cheaper than me, I only have the choice of walking away, or earning less money. Problem is, if I drop my price, the customer thinks that I was ripping them off to begin with and this helps nobody in the long run. I never get work based on my price, as many do think I am too expensive, but rather on the level of service I provide and the professionalism I offer. I have to say however, that as I live in an area of many retired people, work tends to be won on how the person likes you, and feels comfortable with you in their home, rather than the cost.

I quite agree. I've had 20 jobs this month, of which only 5 were for new customers. These ranged from replacing the battery on a PC motherboard (ÂŁ18) to an all-RCBO CU and associated works (ÂŁ1214). Keep your existing customers happy by doing a good job and getting on well with them, while receiving a decent rate for the job. This ensures repeat business and is more likely to lead to recommendations, at no cost to you. It helps that I don't just do electrics, so some customers keep a list of small maintenance jobs and I'll spend a day working through them.
