i have been asked to install 10 sockets and 12 spotlights above a cafe which has been derilict for years, what the dude has done is plasterboarded one room and hall in this derilict building above his cafe.. he said i can surface mount the sockets and the spotlights i can rip up floor above to do spotlights , no problem. also at the back of his cafe he had a 20ft container unit to make kitchen bigger and has now built round it and left in place. just the way it is.. he wants an office now(above)..

heres what i propose to do, use 40A breaker in cu , 6mm t&e surface mounted to new 4 way board with 63A 30mA main switch with 2x20A raidials and 6A lighting circuit.

the run isnt long for distribution circuit or radials and reason im using 2 radials in small space is it will save on bending conduit all around room and over the top of a fireplace... just think is best.....

any flaws in my plan, my onlky one is maybe run distribution in 10mm2, and dont worry about surface mounted cable as is the best way. the cafe is the dogs b. looks well but when you go out back trunking and cables everywhere... thanks if you read and if you like i might write a book for yous

isit okthat the main switch in db2 is 63A as im only using it as a switch...
that's OK. but you may find that the 2.5mm cpc in the 6mm T/E is a wee bit undersized for the prospective fault current. use the adiabatic and if needed run a separate 6mm cpc alongside the T/E.

What is the purpose of this upstairs area, surely if it's just a room and hall being boarded out it can't be for a dwelling.

As it's upstairs is there a likely hood for a socket being used for the purposes of mobile equipment outside ? doubtful

If it is all surface then why RCD protection ? Why 12 spotlights, why not a couple of Florescent fittings be surely easier and cheaper to run.

cheers for replying , its going to be an office as he has 7 cafes and his iphone is his office, but he mentions about doing rest up at later date,as he was quoted 15k to make it liveable..... you have to go out back climb ladder to get onto 2nd floor. as for rcd protection, you never know what they will plug in or what could fall down from roof, think theres about 4 floors.. and i agree 2 flourescent fittings would be easier and cheaper. so again

im comming off a sub main board as is and that has a 10mm earthback to main board.some setup, but im sure you have seen worse probably

If im using 40A breaker for distribution circuit would i not be 40 x 40 x 5secs , sqareroot dived by 115 would equal 1mm earth would do...

or if i was , say tn-s worse case 0.8 ohms

230/.8 = 287.5 x 287.5 x 5secs and square root of divided by k = 6mm earth so i think you right tell
