O

OhmSweetOhm

Getting a lack of experience in my apprenticeship due to my company becoming more of a lacky company doing whatever they're asked of no matter what it is rather than being an electrical company.
This is worrying me a great deal as my AM2 is coming up in July and a lot of the things I've learnt has just been forgotten.
So I've made this thread to ask you guys any questions that pop into my head that I'm unsure about. So firstly...

2 way switching:
Do you bring a twin and earth in from the board to the light fitting.
Take a 3 core and earth away from the light fitting to the first switch (Brown-C, Black-L1, Grey-L2)
Then take a 3 core and earth from switch one to switch two?

How do you do two way switching by bringing the feed to the first switch?

Thanks.

If your talking T&E then -

2 core T&E from board to ceiling rose, 2 core from there to the first 2 way switch (L1&L2) then a three core from there to the second 2 way switch.

So your first switch should have 2 sets of conductors in L1 2 conductors in L2 and the brown from the 3 core in COM

second switch should have the 3 core in the same formation

Twin and earth feed to the light fitting. T+E from the light down to the first switch to L1 and L2, then 3 core from that to second switch. Make sure whatever core you use as the 'common' in the 3 core is the same for both switches.

You can take a two core feed to the light, drop a three core to each switch using one brown as a live drop the other as a switch wire and connect the blacks and greys together.
Take the two core feed to the light, drop a two core to the first switch and from there a three core to the other switch
Take the feed to the switch, a three core to the second switch and a two core to the light from either switch. Theres several ways to skin a cat, best to sit down with some diagrams and work through how its done or even better sketch it out on paper and work out how to do it, this will fix it in your brain.

Yeahhh, I meant 2 core down from the rose. Cheers lads. I'll post my next query when it pops into my head as it is inevitable haha.
PS. Anyone know why my GU10s might flicker? I watch the light shining on the wall and it's as if someone slightly shaking the light. They're on a dimmer switch if that matters any. Or do I just need to call an exorcist?

The 3core goes between the two switches only, a twin brown from one switch to the light fitting, switch connections are ; the switch with just a 3 core at it is Brown L1, Grey and Black L2 and L3, the switch with a 3 core and a twin brown is L1 brown from the 3core,L2 brown from twin with grey, L3 is the other brown from the twin with the black, don't forget to sleeve the grey and black with brown sleeving.

Check this out...

Just did my AM2. It's 3 way/intermediate switching you have to do not 2 way in t&e.

I took my main to my first switch, and 3 cores between the rest and just a 2 core from my first switch to the light fitting.
