Discuss Three phase 4.4kW motor in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

under no circumstances should a rapid brake be used because it will spin the retaining nut off the arbour which would then become a projectile...

Then direct on line (dol) would suffice. Get your electrician to purchase a dol starter complete with overload protection suitable for a 4.4kW motor. You should also consider a braking system and emergency stop button(s).

No way!
No how!
Do you use braking unless the arbour is designed for it!

Glenn pointed out the dangers.

Do you intend to use drive belts and pulleys for this drive?

You need to check the maximum peripheral speed of the blade. If not.

I’ll leave it to the others to go through the legal implications of what you’re planning. But you are playing with fire.

I only said to consider using a brake as I also mentioned emergency stop as it's a bespoke setup, we do not know the speed and how long before the motor comes to a stop. ( It used to be anything over 10 seconds required automatic braking)Just trying to point out to the OP that there is much more to building a machine from scratch then just supplying the motor with power.

That sounds like fun. We had a 50" paper reel (about 1000kg) come off a reelstand a roll down the press hall very quickly. Luckily no one was in the way. A few people needed their pants changing though..

DIY circular saw !!!!! Best one yet next he'll want to put handles on it if he can lift it .....its gonna have a right wrist breaker if it bites

I really can't see a problem with it assuming there is a neutral there.
