Hi all
Hoping someone might be able to give me steer..
I have purchased a commercial convection oven with a three phase plug. I'd like to switch the plug out to a regular household UK 3 pin plug. Is this possible and how would I go about it?
Cheers!

What's the power rating of the oven? There should be a rating plate with this information somewhere on the appliance. You're looking for figures for Volts (V), Watts (W or kW) and Amps (A).

red to Live, yellow to Earth, Blue to Bits.

It may be possible, but you would have to purchase more equipment, like an inverter, to supply 3 phase from a single phase. I would personally not bother.
Silly question really, but why didn't you purchase a single phase oven?

Wind up!.... OP suggests he knows what 3ph is by including it in the post but wants to put a household plug on. hmmmm! I smell a rat?

230v 50/60 hz
3.2KW
14 amps

and do you think a BS1363 plug top will be happy with 14A up it's jacksie?

230v 50/60 hz
3.2KW
14 amps

Are you getting confused here ... this suggests a single phase oven but would still require its own independent circuit like any electric domestic oven, wired to a cooker outlet is the usual for these.

Why would you need a 3 phase inverter ? you just need to link the the phases together in the appliance .There should be a plate on the oven to tell you the load at 230 volts if it is 14 amps then run a separate supply from the CU then stick in on a 20 amp double pole isolator

No I wouldn't put this on a 13A plug.

Are all the pins of the three phase plug used? Maybe it's just a single phase appliance which happens to have been fitted with a three phase plug.

No rat - just an ignorant guy who doesn't know his arse from his elbow when it come to electrics..

A bit more context..

The oven is for a catering kiosk.
The kiosk has single phase in to it.
It has a 16amp electrics at work surfaces with standard UK three pin plugs
The fuse box is 16/32 amps.
The oven is three phase (but you know that already)

Any further advice would be appreciated!

-You say 3phase oven yet the plate on it states 230v now either this is American or something if 3ph or its single phase already?
-Socket outlets and standard plug tops are 13amp rated hence the 13amp max fuse in the plug tops, your fuse board has probably got 16amp fuses and 32 amp fuses on its circuits which is why you may be getting confused.

-As the info you are supplying us is contrdictive and no offense but your lack of electrical knowledge means the info may not be within your understanding, best to see if we have any members in Oxford area who could come and help you out.

Its sounds like you need a new circuit IMHO unless you have a unused cooker circuit already but either way it wants checking or wiring by a competent person, they will also check the oven is as you state and suitable to be wired in.

Thanks!
You're right.. just writing that last set of info was beyond my understanding, although what you say makes sense about the sockets and fusebox.

I'm taking the 230v from an online manual for the model I have, not from the back of the unit (as it's not with me now) so I could well me giving inaccurate info on that front. The rest I'm fairly confident about.

Thanks for your help :)

In that case take a pic of the plate on the actual unit then come back for advice, if it is indeed 3ph it may be the case it might be not suitable to convert for single phase use and even if it can the demand may be too large for a catering kiosk unless you have it decent sized genny' or power supply present.
