Hi guys , bit off a stupid question but you guys n girls got any tips for sizing cables when doing periodics. sometimes look in fuse board and have too look a few times to work out wat mm they are thanks

Its not as if rolled and shaped conductors haven’t been around for a while. OK the insulation is thinner but it’s the conductor size you look at.

The only stuff that really threw me was some 95mm super flexible over sheathed singles, 70mm lugs fit it perfectly. Lovely stuff to work with.

I'll agree with that, it really does what you tell it to do. Great for panel/main supplies in trunking.

I've made a record of all the different sizes (outer sheath/inner sheath and conductor) for 1mm-25mm and keep a pair of calipers in my tool kit so I can measure if at all unsure. Sometimes the insulation is varying sizes on the same mm conductor so I have a variance written next to it.. eg +/-

Generally you know, but sometimes 1mm/1.5mm throws me, but I must say I like Richards idea of some crimped pieces on a key ring!

I would add though that a typical good TT rod of 100 ohms only needs 3V to have 30mA flowing and so trip an RCD, you might find that sort of N-E...
