Just a thought. How about a thread covering hints and tips, nothing too technical, just if any members have useful tips or know of gadgets that save time and money ( without cutting corners, of course ) let's have 'em

A bit of tape when you're up a ladder holding something up with your head and still needing three hands is invaluable.

a good set of rods for saving time (or trunking lid)
a fein or equivalent multi tool
good strong magnet and compass for lining up through walls etc
best tip i could give is make sure if poss you get the right stuff the first time round as there is no fun in buying twice

for ladder work i use a 2ft length od galv. conduit inside a rung just at waist level with a bucket hung on it. drill, hammerand allsorts can go in it and be easily picked out. also any rubbish from fittings removed can go in , saves having to go all round bending down

also a scutch ab brill for chopping out and saving the hands some grief

Cross line laser and a spotter laser are invaluble for setting out.

things like lasers are great until the plumber sees it.

not rushing, so you dont make mistakes. its not quicker if you have to do it again

Dressing cables into final positions in the back box, then connecting them to accessories,you then know where there going to end up when you screw back the plate no nipped wires.

hide the plumber's blowtorch. then you won't have burnt cables under the floor when you come to test

a re-threading tool got cought out without one of those a few times when i first started out

I always take a camera with me in case I forget where the wires go

Keep stocked up, nothing worse than having to break off a job to do an hour round trip to merchants for a single pattress, or turning up to a light fault and you need a pendant, but you used the last one yesterday.

Biggest TIP!! become a gas fitter!! more money less hassle!! at least its illegal to touch gas un like electric!!
