Hi all. I have come to a house today where one Earthing conductor is connected straight into the neutral Henley block and also another Earthing conductor is connected to a rod outside. There is no pme sticker and also I have been outside and can't see a neutral tapped down to earth at any of the poles. I just wondered what everybody would do with this situation and if any dangers would arise if the supply neutral happened to go down( after all earth is tapped down via the rod and with the bonds) I was thinking if the neutral went down the devices wouldn't trip because of resistance of rod, but wouldn't this be the situation if the neutral went down on a pme anyway or is it that the p.d would be reduced because the poles are tapped down to earth in a number of places. I am going to TT it etc but wondered what everybody else would do. Just got back from Turkey so brain isn't functioning properly yet. Thanks.

I don't think its pme because ze is 0.47. Also sorry of I'm being thick but what does wpd stand for. Thanks.

I think he's saying Western Power Distribution , As stated call the DNO and they will be able to tell you

forget calling the dno unless you want to spend half an hour talking to some call centre goon.
put a bloody picture up.

anyway i smell a bodge if the earth & neutral are connected in a henley block , they should be only linked within the dno cut-out.
and if its tns then its usually a lead sheath service cable.

Why wouldn't you tt it. Everything is covered by 30mA rcd protection. That is the reason I was just going to remove the earth to neutral link and leave it as a tt only.

because the existing Ze reading of 0.47 is going to be at least 50 times better than any earth rod reading you can realistically achieve.

so...if its distributers facility earthing...then get them to see to it...

and when you ring the DNO dont spend half an hour trying to get through to some stupid old cow on the end of the phone....

ask to be put straight on to the duty engineer...

As said get the DNO out there to clarify this earthing arrangement.Without pics hard to make judgement.Is it ug feed or OH? (Some OH supply's are pme) should be labelled.
