Scenario is

2.5mm swa sent out via 13amp sfs to electric gates from 16amp mcb in consumer unit as part of a tncs/pme earthing arrangement. do the gates really need bonding with 10mm or converting to TT Seems over the top any thoughts on this subject would be happily received

Just Ive come across this twice in the last 6 months I agree with you entirely I'm old school an thought this was a strange set up. Not something I would do personally but why would anyone else is my question ?

Gates on last property were max 10m from house at closest point roughly 20m from MET

only way to be sure is to test gates as to whether they are extraneous. Megger between gate and MET. if > 22 k Ohms, then no need to bond.

And provided it's got 30mA RCD, if the measurement is less than 50V/30mA = 1667 Ohms it's ok too (since a fault to the metal of the gate will cause the RCD to disconnect supply).

It's the old tncs outside again Ive personally never bothered to rod a gate post regarding electric gates on a tncs or bonded them with there own dedicated cable generally just earthed using the supply cable usually a 2.5 or 4.0mm earth back to CU was just wondering if anyone else does that Head scratching
